This paper provides a historical overview of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by summarizing the evolution of TAM, its key applications, extensions, limitations, and criticisms from a selective list of published articles on the model. Current observations indicate that although TAM is a highly cited model, researchers share mixed opinions What is Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)? Definition of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM): One of the most frequently employed models for research into new information technology acceptance. The TAM suggests that when users are presented with a new technology, a number of factors determine their decision about how and when they will use it. Both the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) aim at understanding better why users accept or reject a given technology, and how user acceptance can be improved through technology design.

TAM is largely credited to Fred Davis in 1986, when he was part of the Computer and Information Systems, Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Michigan in the US. The Technology Acceptance Model or TAM model shows which factors influence people's intention to actually use a product. In this article, we take a closer look at the factors and explain the role that the System Usability Scale can play in this. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) explains how a new technology and the various aspects of it are received and used by the user. Though many models have been proposed previously in the field of Information Systems to describe the relationship, it is this model which has been widely acclaimed and used. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) predicts the user acceptance of end-user applications by specifying causal relationships among select belief and attitudinal constructs that mediate the influence of external variables on usage behavior. Previous researchers (Davis, 1993) have cited the need to validate TAM across different user populations. The aim of the model is to predict the acceptance of new technology, especially computers in an organization. Davis et al. recognized that it is ineffective to introduce new technology if it wasn’t going Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) www.adaptcentre.ie In the Information Systems (IS) community, TAM is the most popular model among those proposed to explain and predict the acceptance of a system. Fred Davis first proposed TAM in his doctoral thesis in 1985.
